Orbit Architects is proud to unveil the comprehensive refurbishment and transformation of 23 Goswell Road, a prominent late 60s building located near the iconic Barbican and Golden Lane Estate. Named ‘Beton’ by Spacemade, the building formerly housed the dance school, Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. Our mission was to reinvent this structure into a dynamic, state-of-the-art serviced office space now operated by Spacemade, a co-working office provider focused on the tech sector.
The refurbishment of 23 Goswell Road embodies Orbit Architects' commitment to innovative design and creative solutions. The building's external facade has been completely refaced, giving it a modern, appealing aesthetic that creates a better relationship with the surrounding street. This transformation not only enhances its visual appeal but also creates a more inviting and engaging presence.
Internally, the refurbishment has resulted in a funky fit-out that creatively aligns with the contemporary needs of tech-focused serviced offices. Our design incorporates vibrant breakout areas that encourage interaction and collaboration among users. The services installation, a critical aspect given the building's restricted floor to ceiling constraints, has been executed exceptionally well, ensuring optimal functionality and comfort.
23 Goswell Road has achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating, underscoring our dedication to ESG. Amongst other technical features, the roof now features bird and bat boxes, promoting urban biodiversity and contributing to the local ecosystem. The Beton is now a part of the bustling, cultural hub of Clerkenwell brimming with history, art, design and modernity.
